AGA-Goethe Fellowship

Supporting Young Australians

Closer Relationships Between Australia and Germany:

The Fellowship is made available jointly by the Australian German Association (AGA) and the Goethe-Institut Australia, offering young Australians a 12-week stay in Germany. This comprises a language and culture course at a Goethe-Institut, as well as a 4-week project/study tour in Germany.

The Fellowship is an annual award which supports a young Australian undertake a research project in Germany and report on their work on returning to Australia. Its aim is to foster closer relationships between Australia and Germany and assist with the development of future leaders in our community. The AGA-Goethe Fellowship targets applicants (whether graduates or postgraduates, applicants from any sector, industry or field including but not limited to business, science or the arts) under the age of 35.

Could you be the next winner of the AGA-Goethe Fellowship? Win reimbursement of a return economy airfare from Australia to Germany and a $8,000 allowance to facilitate travel throughout Germany for your Project.

The Fellowship is open to applicants between March/April and June each year. Applicants should have impressive tertiary qualifications, overlooking a promising career. The proposed project of each applicant needs to be carefully considered and structured to include an outline of its features including interviews, itinerary, contacts to be made/visited and any research, as well as proposed and expected outcomes. Applicants should also explain the expected value for Australian-German networks and relationships and the application of outcomes or value-add to the Australian environment (whether (for example) at the personal, group, community, business or institutional level). Good knowledge of German is desirable to at least a basic level. Australian citizenship is required.

There have been around 30 previous winners of the Fellowship.

The Fellowship is governed by specific selection criteria and rules which apply to applications, the selection process and the successful candidate.
